In the capital, Emperor Go-Toba lists soldiers to subdue Yoshitoki. Betting the fate of the samurai government, Yoshitoki challenged the final battle. "

What is "The 13 Lords of Kamakura"?

"" Kamakura-dono "is the Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate . Yoritomo's trade-in was supported by a group of thirteen vassals .

The group guidance system by the Gokenins of the Kamakura Shogunate, which was established after Yoritomo's death, is the "13-person consensus system" that became the model for "13 of Kamakura-dono." Although they fought a fierce internal conflict, it was Yoshitoki Hojo, the youngest of the thirteen, who survived to the end and finally gained power. "

What is the "13-person consensus system"?

"Thirteen people of Kamakura-den" is the story of the thirteen gokenins who supported Yoriie, the second shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate.

[Kamakura Shogunate 13 people's consensus system] was the Kamakura Shogunate, which was founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo as the first samurai government, but in the first year of Shoji (1199), the first shogun, Minamoto no Yoritomo, died suddenly. At that time, Yoriie, the second shogun, was still an 18-year-old young man, and it seems that Yoriie, who had been raised without any inconvenience as a tracer of the shogun, could not lead a powerful gokenin.

For his mother, Hojo Masako, his grandfather, Tokimasa, and his aides, it seems that Yoriie's deeds simply under the name of "the second shogun" were quite overwhelming.

Hojo Tokimasa and Masako saw that the operation of the Shogunate organization would not be possible as it was, and thirteen influential gokenins gathered to hold a meeting. Then, it was decided that these thirteen gokenins would run the shogunate under a "collegial system."
It is ostensibly to assist the young Yoriie, but in reality the purpose is to take up Yoriie's power, and the "collegial system" began only three months after Yoriie became the second shogun, and Yoriie was the shogunate. It has become a mere symbol of the shogunate, not the supreme authority of.

However, there is no case in which all thirteen people discussed in this shogunate, and there is an opinion that Yoriie played a function of complementing Yoriie with a system in which Yoriie makes the final decision by referring to the results of the deliberation by several people. ..

This shogunate was dismantled in less than two years due to vacancies such as deaths among the thirteen gokenins, and then the Kamakura shogunate collapsed at the end of the power struggle, and the torrent of the Genke. Is disconnected. After that, the torrent of Hojo Yoshitoki will rule .
